Do I need an occlusal guard?

Often individuals are unaware that they clench or grind their teeth, because it may be mostly occurring during their sleep. However, if you are experiencing these symptoms, if Dr. Atari notices excessive teeth wear or if you have had extensive dental work completed, an occlusal guard (also known as a “night guard” or “bite guard”) will be recommended for you. An occlusal guard is a removable device that fits over the teeth, serving as a cushion, to protect your teeth from wear and relieves jaw pain.

How Much Do Occlusal Guards cost?

With the financial impact the COVID pandemic has had across the US, we know that cost can be a concern. Our treatment coordinators check with your insurance provider for any potential coverage that can reduce your payment. If you do not have insurance, we offer the Smile Forever Plan, our membership plan which awards you a discounted price on treatments, including the occlusal guard. This preventative procedure is an investment towards preventing more expensive dental procedures.

What does my visit entail?

The fitting of an occlusal guard is usually completed in two visits. In the first visit at our Raleigh office, a mold is made of the patient’s mouth. The guard can either be fabricated to fit the top teeth or bottom teeth.

The second visit is for the dentist to check the fitting of the guard and to explain how to wear it and how to take care of it.

Schedule an appointment with the team at Smileplicity Dentistry to see if you are being affected by this silent culprit. This custom mouth piece can help prevent long term, extensive dental issues. However, the key for its success is a proper fit. Come in for a complimentary consultation to see if this is the right treatment for you.
